Huilboerboon – Schotia brachypetala
- Often found on termite mounds
- Produce copious nectar, which attracts a wide range of animals, but seldom bees. Pollination is left to sun-birds
- Seed dispersal mainly by Grey Lourie and Meyers Parrot
- Seeds edible after roasting, they are said to have been exploited by the Boers in Natal as a food source – thus the name
- Also has spittle bugs at times
- Spring – It has beautiful red flowers before the leaves come.
