Swartapiesdoring – Acacia burkei
- Growth form similar to the Delagoa thorn and the Knob thorn
- Important food source, monkeys enjoy the gum produced by the bark
- Leaves & pods well liked by giraffe – their tough lips, long prehensile tongue and hard horny palate are apparently impervious to the sharp spines
- Many caterpillars have evolved pale stripes or outgrowths as an effective camouflage among the 5 leaflets of the compound leaves
- Some sap-sucking beetles even mimic the prickles on the tree.
