Siege Museum

A museum, decidedly Victorian in character, is housed in the original Market House built in It was utilised during the Anglo Boer War as a ration post.  The nearby battle sites – Elandslaagte, Wagon Hill, Nicholson’s Nek, etc., offer the best of the epic sequence of events leading up to and including the 118 day siege of Ladysmith and its subsequent relief.  The dramatic chain of events depicted in pictures, sketches and posters and illustrated by exhibits of original shell cases,  British  Uniforms and shrapnel, is brought into perspective  by the central exhibition hall.
