The spectacular Sani Pass pierces the Drakensberg Mountains through a narrow defile cut by the mKomazana River. Once it was nothing more than a vague footpath used by Bushman but later became the main route for the early traders, missionaries and travellers. Today the Sani Pass is the only major road into Lesotho from the Southern Berg, with the last 8km being restricted to four wheel drive vehicles.
Although the richness of the flora in the Sani Pass is always ‘lnteresttnq, the wild flowers are at their most splendid from November to March. The road twists through a protected Wilderness area populated by eland.
