Grave of Lieut. J.S. King

King was the commander of the ship Salisbury which, together with the Julia, were trading along the South African coast. They discovered the natural harbour of Port Natal during In 1826 King, Farewell and others returned to settle in Port Natal. King gained the confidence of King Chaka to such an extent that the king gave him a grant of land at the bay. He died of dysentery in 1828 and his pioneer grave is in an open space on the Bluff.
