Dick King Statue

It is situated on the corner of Gardiner Street and  Victoria Embankment and depicts Natal’s gallant hero Dick King who, on his horse Somerset and accompanied by his servant Ngobeni, rode to Grahamstown, within ten days to obtain military assistance for the besieged British troops in Durban’s Old Fort.   It was a gruelling 960km ride and 122 rivers and streams had to be crossed on the way.
