Situated at 18 Connaught Road Scottsville the Comrade’s Marathon House is an old Victorian dwelling, which has been restored to its original splendour. The City Council of Pietermaritzburg has listed .thls fine old building. It contains memorabilia and personal treasures of former competitors, while videotapes and news cuttings depict the history of the comrades Marathon that was instituted in 1921 by Victor Clapham to commemorate the fallen “Comrades of the Great War”. The Comrades Marathon is an ultra marathon over a distance of 90km between Pietermaritzburg and Durban and has grown from its humble beginnings in 1921 with a field of 34 competitors to attract more than 14000 runners each year, including a growing number of international athletes.
